LLC on the cheap

May 8th, 2006 · 3 Comments

My LLC papers for Recursive Function finally came in the mail last week. Thank you, Secretary of State Todd Rokita.

I applied through LegalZoom, and found the process pretty quick and painless. And at $206.10, it was much cheaper than our Bottled Software filing several years ago. (I always like it when I spot a field on a checkout page for a coupon code, take a detour through a search engine, and promptly find a code to get me 10% off).

I might have got what I paid for though. Not that I was urgently awaiting my papers for anything, but it appears that Todd Rokita stamped them on March 20th and it took more than a month to get them back through LegalZoom.

However, the really scary (and funny) thing is that I also received the certificate of organization for a food services company from Danville, IN in my packet. Sure, I’m trying to tackle a lot of different things right now, but that’s a little too diversified for my entrepreneurial efforts.

Maybe it’s just because I’m so cheap, but a slow response and mixed up paperwork still seems worth it to avoid hundreds or thousands of dollars in legal fees just to setup an LLC. My guess is that the food services company from Danville would disagree with me if they ever find out what happened.

Are you going to mail the papers to the company in Danville?

Yeah, definitely. I contacted LegalZoom about it and they had me overnight the papers back to them.

I’d have paid good money for those Danville papers. Upwards of $205 in fact. Sorry to hear you sent them back.
